Feast One Hundred & Fifty

How many pieces of jewelry do you wear most days?
just the wedding ring and a wrist watch

What is your favorite instrumental song?
i love instrumentals. all kinds. from movie scores to guitar rock instrumentals. it would be hard to pick just one. they’re all very different. i’ll just pick one at random. how about… Eric Johnson’s Cliffs of Dover? classic!

Who has a last name that you like?
my last name is just so common. so i’d pick something with more flair. like Bourgeois. you know, as in musician/songwriter Brent Bourgeois.

Main Course
Name a popular movie you’ve never seen.
i’m not into watching older classics for some reason. so probably one of them. like Casablanca

Fill in the blank: Nothing makes me ___________ like ____________.
Nothing makes me drool like seeing a fresh hot plate of carolina barbeque. :P

Larry King

larry’s in depth interview
i tried watching Larry King Live last night but after enduring a couple of segments filled with cringe-tastic moments, i had to turn the channel. someone please explain to me why CNN still keeps Larry King on the air? i’m sure he’s a nice guy and all but frankly he’s well past his prime and he really botched the interview last night. Larry seemed a bit lost at times. he called Ringo, “George” at one point. and he kept on calling this a “Beatles Reunion” when it really can’t be considered one with only two remaining members and two Beatle widows. come on Larry! idolator was nice enough to post all of Larry’s truly *insightful* questions from last night. here are some of my favorites…

KING: Do you guys, frankly, pinch yourselves?

KING: Did you think The Beatles would make it, make it?

KING: And, again, we’ll be meeting Paul and Ringo in a little while. And then at the end, they’ll all be with us, a kind of reunion of The Beatles.

KING: Beautiful melody and lyrics. Did every one of The Beatles like that song, Yoko?

KING: They were a good group.

KING: Yoko, what’s it like to look at John?

KING: George, where were you?

KING: Ringo, where were you?

KING: Let’s get to something current. How are you doing, Ringo?

KING: Life treating you well?

KING: Everything good, the wife good?

KING: The wife is gorgeous, too.

the man has a way with words! :P and get this, Larry King is interviewing Paris Hilton tonight. har, har. i guess celebrities flock to him since they know that they won’t be asked any difficult, probing questions during the interview…

and speaking of McCartney, here’s a link to a nice boot of his tokyo concert/soundcheck back in Dec. 1993.

the best of the Police

music 2 Comments »

for the past week or so, i’ve been listening to the newly released Police CD in my car on my way to and from work. the 2 disc best of compilation has been on rotation non-stop. kudos to Universal Music Group for putting together a great selection of songs for this set - no duds, no fillers, just the hits and then some. check out the tracklist:

Disc One:
1. Fallout
2. Can’t Stand Losing You
3. Next To You
4. Roxanne
5. Truth Hits Everybody
6. Hole In My Life
7. So Lonely
8. Message In a Bottle
9. Reggatta De Blanc
10. Bring On the Night
11. Walking On the Moon
12. Don’t Stand So Close To Me
13. Driven To Tears
14. Canary In a Coalmine

Disc Two:
1. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
2. Voices Inside My Head
3. Invisible Sun
4. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
5. Spirits In the Material World
6. Demolition Man
7. Every Breath You Take
8. Synchronicity I
9. Wrapped Around Your Finger
10. Walking In Your Footsteps
11. Synchronicity II
12. King Of Pain
13. Murder By Numbers
14. Tea In the Sahara

the set has been remastered by legendary audio engineer Bob Ludwig so the sound is as close to studio perfect as you’re probably ever going to get. we’ve all heard most of these songs countless of times on the radio but the sonic details and dynamic musicianship really come through on CD which you really don’t get from the compressed audio on radio. i’m not sure if this was always there or it’s due to the newly remastered sound but at certain points on the CD, Sting’s deep bass sound rattled my car’s subwoofer to where i had to turn the music down before i blew something. amazing dynamic range for recordings that originated from the late 70’s and early 80’s. oh and the new CD set also contains a neat reprint of a vintage concert poster. definitely a nice touch. so all you classic rock fans out there, if you haven’t gotten the CD yet, I highly recommend getting your own copy of the new double CD. it’s a keeper.

you know, hitting that “easy” button won’t always get you the best deals on office supplies. yes, some office supply giants may have bigger marketing budgets but that doesn’t mean you should overlook the little guy. take for example. they might not be a household name (yet) but they offer some great deals on office supplies, printer paper, Avery labels, school supplies and toner cartridges. and since they know that they are up against some big competition, they go out of their way to please each and every customer and heavily rely on repeat business and word of mouth. they offer over 30,000 different items through their website and work in conjunction with 75 warehouses across the U.S. so that they can ship your items to you as quickly as possible. they also offer free shipping for all orders over $75. everyone loves to root for the underdog, so check out and give them a try.

a clean and neat garage

miscellaneous No Comments »

nice garage..a clean and neat garage. that’s my wife’s dream. unfortunately for her, I tend to keep it a bit messy. you know, like a typical garage - various piles of boxes, lawn care equipment, tools scattered about and the kids’ bikes all gathered on one side. it’s supposed to be a two car garage, but with all of the “extra” stuff lying about, we only keep our minivan inside of it. the wife believes we desperately need some garage organization. i’ve recently taken a look at some items that would definitely help in this matter over at the folding wall bike rack would help in getting the children’s bikes out of the way. and i think the seven piece garage cabinet set would declutter some of the tools and other miscellaneous items that are just lying all about taking up space. has given me plenty of ideas to get some extra space out of this ol’ garage. if your garage needs some organization, be sure to check this site out.

..just a little bit of this and a little bit of that…

- wow. what is happening to one of my favorite shows on TV: Rescue Me??? this past wednesday night’s episode was just pointless. what drew me to the show initially back during seasons 1 and 2 was the great writing, the dialogue and the biting humor. we got none of that in the first two episodes of season four. what a drastic difference. could it be the beginning of the end for the show? well, if they do go out, i really do hope they go out with a bang!! something in grand style and not just whimper off to oblivion.

- Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing is No. 21 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs Chart this week. and their Greatest Hits album is now at no. 2 on the Top Pop Catalog album chart. Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain of Journey are probably feeling like idiots firing their lead singer Jeff Scott Soto last week. with no lead singer, they can’t go out on the road and capitalize on the renewed interest. and if you ask me, the reason why Steve Perry is not going to reunite with Journey is simply b/c of the fact that he can’t hit those high notes like he used to back in the 80’s. it’s as simple as that. and so with no Perry, no Jeff Scott Soto and no Steve Augeri in place, Journey is pretty much out of commission when they could have really taken advantage of the situation here. too bad. serves them right for screwing their lead singer like that.

- it’s great to see ol’ Macca landing in the top 5 on the billboard album chart. it still amazes me that a 65 year old man can be that creative and keep the attention of the masses. but it’s a bit of a bummer to learn that the sound quality of the final product leaves a lot to be desired according to the aural experts over at steve hoffman forums. we all tend to think a professionally mastered CD is a perfect copy of what the artist and producer intended but reading through the forums, it doesn’t seem to be the case. just don’t mention the loudness wars around there, it always seems to get people riled up.

- I just got an email notifying me from that I will be receiving the Jump and Jive With Hi-5 CD very soon. how in the world did that title get on my want list?

- melodic rock heaven!! Def Leppard will be reuniting with producer/songwriter extraordinaire Robert John Mutt Lange (Mr. Shania Twain) to record some new songs!! big hair 80’s rock fans rejoice!!!
…and speaking of Mutt Lange, i recently listened to the three “new” tracks on Shania Twain’s Greatest Hits CD that was released back in 2004. man, i totally respect Mutt Lange as a producer and all but i have to say that he over-processed Shania’s lead vocals through autotune (vocal pitch correction) a bit too much for my tastes. what was he thinking? those tell-tale signs of “autotuning” overpower the natural qualities of her vocals. it just sounds too mechanical and unnatural. either Shania can’t really sing in key or Mr. Mutt Lange loves making his wife sound like a femm-bot.

online shopping coupons

funny but i think i’ve been conditioned to check the web to comparison shop before hitting the local retail stores to buy anything. not only do i then get a good idea of what the best prices are but sometimes i find that the better deals are to be had simply by shopping online which in the end saves me a trip out to the shopping mall. and the top site for finding good deals, you ask? why it’s of course. the site makes it easy to find the latest discounts, coupons and coupon codes for your favorite stores. the main page conveniently features the most popular coupons as well as the most recently added coupons. checking the site is simple, painless and more importantly, it’s quick so it can easily become part of your routine before purchasing anything. I recently came across the Office Depot Coupons which helped me save $30 on a $150 purchase online. finding that coupon definitely made my day. so be sure to check out the online shopping coupons over at and find something that’ll make your day.

castles in the sand

miscellaneous No Comments »

to celebrate the official beginning of the summer season, here’s a very special e-card for all of you.
sand castles
the website that i created this neat little e-card at allows users to Build A Sandcastle of their very own before sending one out. users have various choices of brick style, towers, windows, flags and color so the custom built sand castles are all unique to your own taste and skill. my six year old helped me with this one. he wanted the castle painted red for some reason. we had fun building the castle. of course not as much fun as being at the beach constructing a real one but when you’re at home far, far away from the coastline, this is sort of the next best thing. the other neat thing about the website is that once you are done building the castle, you get to name it and save it which then gets displayed in their castle gallery. so be sure to round up the kids and head on over to the website to build your very own castle and then show it off for everyone to see your hard work. we’re hoping to get to do some real castle building sometime in july when we’re off on holiday. the kids are really looking forward to it. they are anxious to do something new and exciting especially before school starts back up at the end of july. yikes. time is sure flying by. i gotta go pin down our holiday plans. later!

Please Teach Me English - this was probably the most refreshing romantic comedy i’ve seen in ages. although it still stays within the limits of the romantic comedy template, there were a lot of little quirky ingredients that somehow made the story seem fresh. the austrailian english teacher speaking korean terribly was just icing on the cake. loved it. thumbs up.

Conduct Zero - the first half of the film and the visual effects during the fight scenes were really good. but the second half got a bit bogged down and unfortunately fizzled out at the end. thumbs half raised.

Catch and Release - what a mess of a film. Jennifer Garner’s character getting together with her dead fiance’s best friend just didn’t feel right. and even though I love Kevin Smith, he alone could not save this movie. oh and Juliette Lewis is just plain annoying as always. thumbs way down.

Letters from Iwo Jima - reading subtitles during this movie got a bit tiring for me. and this is coming from a dude that frequently watches korean DVDs with english subtitles!!??!?? i appreciate Ken Watanabe’s acting and Clint Eastwood’s filmmaking but i just couldn’t really get into this film for some reason. thumbs sort of aloft.

Open Season - this computer animated film has that been there done that smell all over it. but other than that it’s pretty decent. just don’t expect anything innovative or unique in this one. the kids enjoyed watching it and thats what counts. thumbs up.

Dreamgirls - a great movie with stellar performances by Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy. loved the visual presentations, the choreography and of course the music. interesting how thinly veiled the storyline is. i wonder how Motown’s Berry Gordy feels about all of this? thumbs up!

Music and Lyrics - man, what a disappointment. this is a perfect example of how the movie trailer showed all the best parts of the movie. after viewing the trailer, there’s really not much left. plus the Hugh Grant-Drew Barrymore romantic relationship in the movie is just so unnecessary. why can’t the two leads in the story just have a platonic working relationship? you know, just friendship?? best bits: the retro 80’s music video and the recording of the demo of “Way Back into Love”. just watch the clips of it on youtube. thumbs down.

Little Children - a superb movie. Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson and Jackie Earle Haley were just perfect for the film. lots of tension that builds til that final devastating scene at the playground. a must see. thumbs way up.

Calling All Units!

Calling all units onlinepssttt. are you getting a bit bored surfing around aimlessly with nothing to do? got some time to kill? well, there’s a new time waster… erm, um, i mean, online flash game called Calling All Units: Mayhem! over at the Reno 911! Miami The Movie website. the site is all a buzz about the newly released DVD of Reno 911! The Movie that is now available at your favorite DVD retailer. if you haven’t seen it yet, you have to make it a point to get the DVD. it is one hilarious movie with countless gags and jokes that will have you rolling on the floor with your hands holding onto your stomach. the basic premise is about the Reno police team winding up in Miami for a police convention. and in a series of unfortunate events, the Reno team ends up being the only active law enforcers in town. this all sets the story up for some great fish out the water type comedy. love it!!

as for the game, you take control of a police cruiser and navigate through the city streets to the scene of the crime. keep watch of your energy meter which you can boost by eating donuts. and drive carefully or else your damage meter will skyrocket. crashing into things will increase the “cost to the city” score and driving skillfully to the right destinations will increase your total “salary”. after a couple of tries, my best scores for the game are: cost to city- $11,000 salary- $27,900 busting bonus- $4000. try out the game and let me know what you get.

oh and don’t forget to go get yourself the DVD of Reno 911! Miami The Movie. just like the Naked Gun and Super Troopers, this movie will have you in stitches.

nearest netflix shipping facility

ramblings 1 Comment »

every so often we’d get some korean movies through netflix. unfortunately for us korean movie fans, netflix makes it a bit difficult since there isn’t a specific category designated just for korean movies. and you can’t perform a general search for all DVDs with korean as the primary language either. so there’s no easy way to browse through the latest korean DVDs. most of the time i would have to search for specific titles. but i’m getting a bit off track here. the main reason i’m posting today is to rant about sending back netflix discs to the “nearest shipping facility”.
nearest netflix shipping facility!!
as you can see in the example picture here, all netflix return envelopes are addressed to the nearest netflix shipping facility with the specific shipping center mailing address that the disc originated from printed under it. now normally with mainstream releases your disc is usually from a local distribution center so it’s not a big deal. but for limited releases and foreign movies this isn’t the case. for korean discs, we’ve been getting them from all over- california, seattle, new york etc. so it takes some extra time to receive the discs. and that’s understood. but what i don’t want is to wait those same extra days when i sent the discs back. since the envelopes state “nearest netflix shipping facility” you’d think all DVDs sent back by me would wind up at our local center, right? wrong. for some reason, the post office still sends the DVDs that were from distant shipping centers back to the originating center that’s listed on the envelope.
i’ve been giving the post office the benefit of the doubt but after seeing so many delays in getting my discs checked back in i’m going to stop sending these discs back to the shipping center of origin.

according to the comments posted at hackingnetflix some folks cross out the address and barcode printed on the envelopes so that the post office has no choice but to send them to the local facility. there’s some debate over whether this is a good idea or not. plus i wouldn’t feel right not having an address on there. i was thinking of scanning in the address and barcode of my local shipping center and print out a label whenever the occasion arises. another option that i might consider is doubling up (sending back two discs) in a locally addressed envelope and simply discard the envelopes addressed to a distant location.

i’m sure this sounds a bit petty to some but most netflix users know what i’m talking about. it just burns me up that i have to wait an extra three days for a disc to arrive at a netflix sorting center way out in california when netflix would readily accept the same disc at our local center that’d only take one day. argh!

Home Security

miscellaneous 1 Comment »

home securityrecently there have been a rash of break-ins in and around our neighborhood. learning about these crimes happening so close to home has really made an impression on us. robbery and break-ins are pretty common when it comes to the local evening news but when it happens to your neighbors, the true reality of it all hits you like a ton of bricks. these strange intruders trashing the interior of a home, going through personal items, financial records, and running off with all the family’s treasured things leave their victims feeling violated, vulnerable and helpless. incidents like these remind all of us that we need to take the step necessary to protect our home and our loved ones. the obvious thing to do is to install a Home Security System. there are a variety of different ways to secure a home. from a professional installation of a full monitoring system to a simple wireless home alarm system. technological advances in recent years have now made those nuisance and false alarms we’ve all heard about a thing of the past. security systems can now measure the size and weight of an intruding object so that pets and insects won’t set off the alarm by mistake. another neat option is the addition of video surveillance that is tied into a security system. not only can an intruder be visualized on a remote monitor but can also be recorded for future evidence. security systems have definitely come a long way. they are more user friendly and more advanced than ever before. in the times we’re living in now, a home security system isn’t a luxury anymore, it’s a necessity.

Sir Paul in NYC
it’s hard to believe Paul McCartney is now 65!!! He still rocks out with the best of ‘em. rock on Macca!
Sir Paul still rockin!!
and happy birthday Sir Paul!
I Saw Him Standing There
to celebrate the man’s b-day, here are a couple of rare Macca tracks from the mid-eighties.

Don’t Break the Promises - a nice leftover from his cowriting sessions with Eric Stewart.

I Love This House - this one’s got David Foster all over it. the synths and drum machine make it sound a bit dated. even though the sound reeks of mid-80’s, i still like the song for some odd reason.

Pretty Little Head 7″ remix - a track from one of my all time favorite McCartney albums - Press to Play

Burn Notice

movies and TV No Comments »

well, it’s summer. most people go by the calendar or the overall temperature or when they notice that their kids aren’t at school anymore. one way i can definitely tell is by the lack of interesting programming on television. once summer hits, it’s basically wall to wall reruns and second tier shows that aren’t that interesting to watch. well, i have some good news for all that feel like i do about the summer television schedule. USA Network’s Burn Notice is scheduled to start June 28th! rejoice everyone for there’s finally going to be something substantial to get hooked into during the summer months. The title of the series refers to “burn notices” that are issued by intelligence agencies like the CIA which discredit or announce the dismissal of one of their agents. the new series follows agent Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) as he tries to piece together the reasons for his sudden termination. Besides Donovan, Burn Notice also features Gabrielle Anwar, Sharon Gless and my personal favorite Bruce Campbell (from Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead movies). the mysterious dismissal storyline and the star power of Campbell and Anwar is enough to get me excited about the show. and since finding out about what’s behind Agent Westen’s firing is the whole point of the show there’s not much to go on at this point. if i had to take a stab at it, here’s my take on the reason behind his burn notice:

while digging deep through some classified databases for a case he was researching for, Agent Michael Westen stumbles upon some sensitive documents that revealed detailed information and all the personnel involved in the CIA-Central America drug trafficking fiasco that took place during the Reagan administration. Agent Westen unknowingly opens up a can of worms and the higher ups in the CIA react quickly and swiftly to sweep the info back under the rug. the folks in his department still remember the thrashing they received during the mid-90’s investigations concerning the matter. Agent Westen’s superiors have no choice but to issue the burn notice to stop the info from going any further.

OK, so i’m not a screenwriter. it doesn’t matter. the series starts June 28th on the USA Network. head on over the show’s website for a sneak peek of the series pilot.
