You know what stress is, Dave? Stress is a single parent of three trying to support a family on minimum wage. Stress is an employee whose pension is about to be slashed by her company. Stress is a kid two years out of high school wondering if he or she will make it to their 21st birthday before being blown to bits by a roadside bomb in Iraq. Stress isn’t making a half-hour comedy show and, when all is said and done, pocketing $50 million.

..well, i guess the season 2 DVD will have to do for now…

coffee, coffee everywhere…

well it looks like it’s going to be one of those days. i just spilled coffee on my pants. right around the zipper area. i really hope the stain won’t be that noticeable. i don’t want folks to think that i’d be a good candidate for ditropan XL or something.

i recently watched Phantom of the Opera on DVD. I’m still in shock after i heard myself say to Elaine that I’d rather be listening to Michael Crawford. the movie was crap. come on. i know it’s andrew lloyd webber and all but really, couldn’t they find better vocal talent?? looks over talent wins again.

like i’ve mentioned before, wordpress (which i use for this site) is really great and easy to use. i recently came across a free hosted site for bloggers that want to use wordpress. blogsome. check it out. you won’t go back to blogspot ever again. whatdoyathink, Michael?

computer geeks rejoice!! fretlight is here. play like Neal Schon in no time! just think: guitar legend! start growing your hair long, baby. grab some spandex and you’ll be set.

SuperBabies has no redeeming qualities” according to the Malaysian DVD Cover. via boingboing

oh, did anyone catch this week’s 24? if ya did, please fill me in on what happened. I missed it b/c i was too busy hissing at Omarosa on Reality Fear Factor this past monday.

i just caught the trailer for the The Ring Two. i’m hoping it doesn’t dissappoint. the first one’s a classic. and no i haven’t seen the japanese originals yet. (that’ll be in my queue when i rejoin netflix…) i’m sorta partial to Naomi Watts. ;)

and finally, here’s something that arrived in my inbox this morning. it’s sorta amusing. (sorry grandma!)

The Elderly

LOST IN THE DARNDEST PLACES:
An elderly Floridian called 911 on her cell phone to report that her car has been broken into. She is hysterical as she explains her situation to the dispatcher: “They’ve stolen the stereo, the steering wheel, the brake pedal and even the accelerator!” she cried. The dispatcher said, “Stay calm. An officer is on the way.” A few minutes later, the officer radios in. “Disregard.” He says. “She got in the back-seat by mistake.”

FAMILY
Three sisters ages 92, 94 and 96 live in a house together. One night the 96 year old draws a bath. She puts her foot in and pauses. She yells to the other sisters, “Was I getting in or out of the bath?” The 94 year old yells back, “I don’t know. I’ll come up and see.” She starts up the stairs and pauses “Was I going up the stairs or down?” The 92 year old is sitting at the kitchen table having tea listening to her sisters. She shakes her head and says, “I sure hope I never get that forgetful, knock on wood.” She then yells, “I’ll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who’s at the door.”

“I CAN HEAR JUST FINE!”
Three retirees, each with a hearing loss, were playing golf one fine March day. One remarked to the other, “Windy, isn’t it?” “No,” the second man replied, “it’s Thursday.” And the third man chimed in, “So am I. Let’s have a beer.”

LITTLE LADY:
A little old lady was running up and down the halls in a nursing home. As she walked, she would flip up the hem of her nightgown and say “Supersex.” She walked up to an elderly man in a wheelchair. Flipping her gown at him, she said, “Supersex.” He sat silently for a moment or two and finally answered, “I’ll take the soup.”

DOWN AT THE RETIREMENT CENTER
80-year old Bessie bursts into the rec room at the retirement home. She holds her clenched fist in the air and announces, “Anyone who can guess what’s in my hand can have sex with me tonight!!” An elderly gentleman in the rear shouts out, “An elephant?” Bessie thinks a minute and says, “Close enough.”

OLD FRIENDS
Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years, they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards. One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, “Now don’t get mad at me … I know we’ve been friends for a long time …but I just can’t think of your name! I’ve thought and thought, but I can’t remember it. Please tell me what your name is.” Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she said, “How soon do you need to know?”

SENIOR DRIVING
As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife’s voice urgently warning him, “Herman, I just heard on the news that there’s a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77. Please be careful!” “Heck,” said Herman, “It’s not just one car. It’s hundreds of them!”

DRIVING
Two elderly women were out driving in a large car - both could barely see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red, but they just went on through. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself “I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light.” After a few more minutes, they came to another intersection and the light was red again. Again, they went right through. The woman in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light had been red but was really concerned that she was losing it. She was getting nervous. At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was red and they went on through. So, she turned to the other woman and said, “Mildred, did you know that we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us both!”
Mildred turned to her and said, “Oh my……… am I driving?”

can someone please stop them from playing those horrible Vanessa Carlton/time-warner cable ads on radio and TV??? it’s the most annoying commercial. ever. not only did she butcher a classic Rolling Stones tune but she totally lost any remaining credibility she had as a so called artist by telling viewers that she uses the digital phone feature and that we should too. i’m sure there are more subtler ways to endorse a product but these infomercial-like ads totally blows. oh. .my. .goodness. i just came across the complete “Time is On My Side” video. with all those constantly running commercial spots i didn’t think it could get much worse. it just did. check it out. she even includes a 50’s-style (totally lame) spoken word section in the middle of the song. you have to watch it. you. have. to. i. can’t. stop. watching. it. .please. .help.

oopps. was i supposed to tip the guy that brought me my to-go order at curbside? i picked up some food from johnny carino’s last night before going home and they have curbside service for to-go orders. normally at these curbside deals (at all the Chili’s related restaurants), i end up going in to get my food so no tipping was required of me. but this time the guy came right out when i pulled in and was very prompt in getting my food. mentally, i was still in “to-go” mode so i didn’t even think to tip him. but according to the tipping discussion board, i’m supposed to tip the guy. my bad. now, i feel kinda down about it. i just inadvertently perpetuated that asian “bad tippers” stereotype. wonderful. i better not go back to that place for a good while. who knows what they’d do to my food if i show my face around there again.

free subscription to Giant Magazine. love the little blurb about the magazine:

Does your girlfriend think you’ve got a screw loose because everything you say is a movie quote? Do you consider it productive to spend 4 hours mastering the next level of a video game? Are you tired of work getting in the way of your web surfing? If so, stop hiding. We celebrate you. You’re a real Guy and guess what? You’re not alone.

anyway, YMMV (your mileage may vary) depending on what you put as your profile on the site. good luck.

long distance runaround…

general, links and stuff 3 Comments »

well, it’s time to change my long distance phone service provider. it all started back in 2001 when I swore off AT&T because of their numerous fees added on top of what they charged you for actual calls. back then I went with a cheap reseller, zoneLD which started out great as you can see from my old review of the service. but as time went on, the company started adding various fees to our monthly bill. over the last year or two the fees kept increasing. and now they just announced another increase in monthly fees so it’s time to switch, baby! i don’t see why anyone would stay with these greedy crooks. it’s a mass migration, baby! to where? ummm, i’m not sure…. so, what’s everyone using nowadays? I know, i know, most of you are probably using your cell phones to make long distance calls. unfortunately, it wouldn’t work in our household since Elaine and I both have Virgin Mobile which is the pay as you go plan.
hmmm, let’s see now… so, according to consumer guru Clark Howard, americom is a good one to use. anyone out there use americom? let’s see… 3.9 cents a minute state to state. oh, and you get a 100 minutes free for signing up. cool. 9 cents for calling within my state. and 6 cents for international calls to seoul korea. Elaine will like that. and they claim no “hidden” fees so i hope that’s true. we’ll see. …i think i’ll go ahead and sign up. hey, if Clark Howard endorses it, then ya can’t go wrong, right???!!
Does anyone here know a reason why this man and this long distance carrier should not be joined together? If so, speak now or forever hold your peace…
